Antique Hanky Quilt Workshop - FULL

Antique Hanky Quilt Workshop - FULL

What do I do with all my old linens? Make a small fat quarter quilt.

We're excited to welcome David and Teresa Duwe to McDonald's Sewing & Vacuum.  Teresa will teach this workshop.  David is self-taught and began quilting in the early 1990's. He thought of the sewing machine as another tool he could use. He would watch quilting shows on television and go into local quilt shops to study their display quilts. He then would go home and make his own creations.

Teresa became interested in quilting after a trip to the Houston International Quilt show in 2005. David was her first teacher.

Together they are quilt teachers who can teach you how to quilt through classes and quilt shows. They currently are members of 4 quilt guilds: Prairie Quilt Guild, Wichita, KS; Country Rose Quilt Guild, Rose Hill, KS; Walnut Valley Quilters Guild, Winfield, KS; Wichita Modern Quilt Guild, Wichita, KS.

Requirements: Supplies: 7-9 hankies (Try to make one hanky your focus fabric for the quilt. It will be placed in the center of your quilt top and you will place additional hanky pieces around it. Think about using a color scheme or theme for your quilt. Make a selection of various designs. Try not to make them all see through hankies if possible as you will see the layers beneath each piece.) small antique doilies, linens, tatting, embroidery, trims, buttons, etc. (you will add these to your quilt top as embellishments and to cover up seams) 1 yard of no sew light weight fusible web 1 fat quarter fabric that coordinates with your hankies (this fabric will possibly show through your see through hankies/linens so choose a solid or print that will not detract from your overall design) rotary cutter with new blade glue stick/pen small craft iron if you have one backing fabric and batting (we will quilt on our machines if you get your tops done using decorative stitches or grid work using a walking foot) general sewing supplies (machine in good working order, thread to coordinate with your hankies, needles for sewing on buttons, straight pins, ruler)
